The Verdict is in...Or is it?
My knee has been bothering me since March. I ran the Eugene Marathon on it in April and it was disastrous leading to one of my worst times and one heck of a painful experience. I finally caved in, stopped being stubborn and scheduled a doctor's appointment during my time at home.
Well....I wish I would have continued to be hard-headed and never went because I had the biggest cluster bleep of a doctor's appointment that ended with no resolution or solution.
|Picture of my left knee/meniscus--Physician's Assistant thought the triangle on the right shows a tear in the corner, Doc says the one of the left with the shading may be a small tear. What gives?|
Then comes in the doctor, who proceeds to tell me I may have a tear but on the opposite side as to where the physician's assistant pointed to and that my pain may be coming from what looks to be a stress fracture in my leg. WHAT?! A stress fracture wasn't even on my radar especially because the pain is coming from bending my knee.
Futhermore, since it was a stress fracture I could no longer receive a cortisone shot because cortisone actually slows the healing of bone and I've been instructed to stay off of it for at least 6 weeks with the unsettling notion that it could take even longer to heal (note: At the point of my doctor's appointment I had postponed running for 6 weeks already as I haven't ran since April 28).
So, if you've been wondering why you haven't seen any running related posts, or any upbeat blog entries about upcoming races, it's because it's all been put on the shelf along with my knee until further notice.
