Coronado Valentine's Day 10K Recap
I wish they still used this stellar logo
We couldn't have celebrated our last day in San Diego any better than by running the 2013 Coronado Valentine's Day 10K. If I could relive this day over and over again, I'd look like this...
It was perfect!
The weather was gorgeous, the race was on Coronado Island (ah, hello beautiful) and my valentine agreed to run this 10K with me!
We arrived around 7:30 a.m. for the 8 a.m. race and parking was already sparse. Be sure to carpool or arrive extra early to secure a spot.
The Tidelands Park course was gorgeous and the race was very well organized. One major improvement or suggestion that I would make would be to have the walkers start at the very back of the race. In the picture posted above the sign for the "walkers" corral was so close to the starting line that A LOT of runners had to line up behind the walkers. I know Casey and I spent the first two miles of the course zig zagging through walkers which not to be diva-like but when you pay $54 each ($108 total as a couple) this shouldn't happen.
We heard many runners complaining about this at the start of the race and rightfully so.
Fortunately, this was the only downside.
Here are a few snapshots from the race, photos courtesy of Capstone Photo (and yes, I will remove the photos if asked...but c'mon I'm only promoting them, right?)
FINISH AND MEDAL:
Jenny: 48:00 (48-flat, my first and probably only flat time ever)

|2257||Cox, Jenny||East Alton, IL||F||27||CouplesM/F||53||00:49:35||00:48:00||00:07:42|
I was so proud of Casey for absolutely slaughtering his time! He did such a great job knocking off nearly 10 minutes from his previous 10K time. Love you, babe!
The medals are ginormous and possibly weigh the size of a small infant. Just kidding, kind of. If you're all about the medals then you'll love this race. The hardware is much larger and heavier than most of my half-marathon and marathon medals...combined.
Part of my daily routine is to spend an obnoxious amount of time reading running blogs. One of my favorites happens to be STUFT Mama. Because Southern California offers ideal conditions for running year 'round and races 365 days a year, most of the bloggers I follow are from The Golden State.
Just a little background, this mother of twins is an insanely fast runner with a huge following. So as you can imagine I was shocked when I saw her right before the race. I wanted to
be a crazy fan say "hi," tell her how much I love her blog and what an inspiration she is to women, but she was strapping her boys down in her engine run jogger stroller.
But, I saw her again...(and so did Casey)
As she FLEW by us during the race pushing her stroller containing probably about 90 lbs. of pure toddler and stroller weight. CRAZY.
This woman is INCREDIBLE.
Now, here is the most embarrassing part. You're probably thinking, "being passed by a stroller wasn't embarrassing enough?" Actually, no. I don't think I've ever been more honored to be passed by a stroller. You may not see Kristin (her real name) in the pages of PEOPLE magazine, but she is a celebrity in her own right to thousands of women across the United States.
So...it was HILARIOUS when I saw that I made the background of her Instagram photo from the race (I'm the gal in red that looks dazed AND confused).
On display for all 2,912 of her Instagram followers was my
best Photo FAIL of all-time.
Let's take a close up...
